Here’s the News:

Arrival & Dismissal at DES
Official school hours are 9:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Please note that students are expected to be in their classrooms by the official start time, so allow them time to locate their rooms, unpack and settle in. Daily announcements begin at 9:10 a.m.

Your students should know if they are a bus-rider or a car-rider. The school encourages students to ride the bus if at all possible.

If your student will be a car rider, please note that car drop-off and pick-up is in the front of the school, not in the bus loop. You are asked to NOT park in the lot for pick up and do not try to enter the school – please wait in the car line. Also, the line of sight for exiting cars onto Central Ave. can be tricky. All cars waiting to enter the lot are asked to leave a few car lengths of empty space at the turn in to allow exiting drivers a better view of oncoming traffic.

All entry to the school at the end of the day is restricted between 3:20 and 3:35 p.m.

For more details on arrival and dismissals, please read the information on the DES PTO website at: http://despto.org/des-info/arrival-dismissal-guidelines/.

School Staff
The Principal of Davidsonville Elementary School is Mrs. Jean Marie Hofstetter. The Assistant Principal is Mrs. Stacy Levery. The front office staff is comprised of Mrs. Liz Lewnes, Mrs. Casey Perkins, and Mrs. Tammie Doyle. If you need to contact the school, you are encouraged to call the school office at 410-222-1655 and one of the office staff members will help you. Office hours are 8 am.-4 pm.

Buses will be rolling once again
The Anne Arundel County school bus schedules are available online. If you haven’t already checked them, visit: http://www.aacps.org. Please be on alert for school-age children moving about your neighborhoods and please brief your bus-rider on proper bus behavior.

Label your belongings
Please remember to write your student’s name on their personal items, including lunchboxes, backpacks, jackets, etc. You would not believe the number of items that end up in the Lost & Found. If items are misplaced, there is a lost and found bin in the cafeteria.

Applications Online for Free & Reduced price meals
The Anne Arundel County School Board has placed applications for free and reduced price meals online this year for easy access. If you are interested in applying, or to find out if you may qualify, visit: https://applyformeals.aacps.org/.

You are asked to please submit the form as soon as possible so we can get started on the School Directory. Our goal is 100% participation. Your PTO Executive Board members for this school year are:
President: Carrie Groff
VP Communications: Christina Feindt
VP Fundraising: Melissa Robinson
VP Volunteer Coordinator: Jodi Doney

 That’s all for now.

Harvest for the Hungry is coming soon
The annual DES Food Drive will begin the first week of October. Each year, families send in donations of dried foods, canned goods and much more to help replenish the AA County Food Bank. Davidsonville Elementary has always been among the top donor schools in the area and we hope to continue this tradition. Parents, be on the lookout this week for a flier being sent home, detailing the themed days for food donations. Meanwhile, if you see good sales at area grocery stores, keep the Harvest for the Hungry in mind as you shop.
