5th grade promotion update
One correction since the last Gator Blast. The school is asking for guests to plan for entry at 9:00 a.m. And it is hoped that all attending have filled out and submitted the form that was sent home with your 5th grader. This will really help speed up the anticipated line waiting for entry. Parking will be extremely tight given the timing and the need for buses to use the bus lot. Consider carpooling if possible, and please DO NOT park in the turn lane for front lot entry. It’s sure to be an exciting event for many and we look forward to celebrating our amazing 5th graders with you.

A quick survey for all of you
The PTO’s fundraising committee has a short survey for all DES families. Just a few questions to find out what all of you think about things and get some ideas from you for next year’s planning. So, take a few minutes and share with us. Click here for the online survey.

Committee Chairperson openings next year
The PTO does a lot at DES and we can always use more helpers. As we look forward to the next school year, we find several important positions that need to be filled. We will be talking about them more at the Volunteer Orientation Breakfast in Sept., however we’d like to share some right now. Open positions may include: Author’s Week, I Read-You Read, School Supply Kits, and more. If you might be interested in any of those listed, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at: volunteer@despto.org. Don’t worry, there’s plenty more volunteer spots to fill!

Reminder: School Supply ordering is open
Order your school supply kit online thru July 15th. Supplies will be in your child’s classroom when they meet their new teacher in late August. We are offering an optional donation kit this year to equip all teachers with necessary items that are no longer listed as “required.” Please consider buying one of these kits to help. The Summer Reading Challenge’s website is online and you can visit it at: https://dessummerreading.weebly.com/.

Reminder: Come watch pros play lacrosse at DES Night
Filling out your summer calendar? The Chesapeake Bayhawks are hosting a special lacrosse game night on Saturday, July 28th at the Navy Stadium in Annapolis. The Bayhawks will be playing the Denver Outlaws at 7 pm, gates open at 5 pm. DES families are welcome to purchase tickets for the event online, then come take part in a fan tunnel before the game begins. In Recognition: Volunteer of the Month for June
Jamie Quinn
Jamie Quinn was selected by the DES PTO as the DES Volunteer of the Month for June. Jamie is currently serving as the Room Parent Coordinator for the school. She has also volunteered in many other ways such as being a Room Parent, a Media Center helper, working with the I Read, You Read program, with Gator Wear, Polar Express Day, the Recess Relay, Holiday Shoppe, and running the Candy Bar Bingo event this year.

You can also find her at the school socials, on many field trips, and helping teachers with administrative duties.  But best of all, Jamie is always willing to pitch in wherever needed.

Jamie is also a substitute teacher at DES so she spends a lot of time at the school.  Thank you Jamie for all of the time and dedication that you have given to the staff and students!!

Congratulations 5th Graders!
Onward & Upward you go. We hope you always look back fondly at your years at Davidsonville Elementary School and we wish you the best of luck in all that you do. Remember to: Imagine, Believe & Achieve.

Volunteer Awards – Volunteer of the Year is Jodie Doney!
The recent Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast event featured several recognitions for some DES volunteers. The PTO presented the annual Volunteer of the Year award to Jodi Doney, recently profiled as she was selected Volunteer of the Month for February. Jodi handles many things around the school and coordinates all volunteers working for DES, no small feat if you think about it. We extend our deepest thanks to Jodi for all that she does for the school – congratulations!

Tremendous thanks go out to ALL of our DES volunteers. The students at the Volunteer event had so very many thanks, and shared so many great memories that the PTO and all of the parents help to make possible. It’s amazing what events and little things that the kids remember throughout the year! Thanks to all of the students and staff, especially Mrs. Appel, who helped to coordinate such a great event for volunteers.

Volunteer of the Month for May
Jody Brennan
Jody Brennan was selected the DES Volunteer of the month for May. Jody has served on the PTO Executive Board as the secretary for the last 2 years. This year she was also tasked with organizing PTO gifts to recognize our Custodians, Principal, Assistant Principal, school nurses and administrative professionals.  Jody has planned the back-to-school luncheon for the teachers for two years and was previously the chairperson for the DES Science Fair as well as being on the committee. Jody has also served on the Gator Gamble and School Play committees and helped with Holiday Shoppe, and Book Fair.

You can always find Jody pitching in where needed — at socials, in classrooms, at Back to School night, and on lots and lots of field trips! Jody is a stay at home mom returning to work soon, but really enjoys helping with various charities and especially loves spending time with her husband Thad and their two daughters Courtney (grade 6) and Lilah (grade 5). DES will surely miss you as your childrens’ move onward means we won’t have you around here anymore. Thanks Jody for all of your time and willingness to always help!
