Just a thought if you feel like sharing
Cold and flu season are upon us, and we just had the notion that teachers could surely use some donations of tissues, liquid hand soap and bleach wipes for classrooms. We just thought it might be something nice to suggest. So, if you feel like helping out, we’re sure your teachers would be grateful for any donations you send in. Thank you.

CAN YOU HELP US?
***  Volunteers needed for tomorrow at DES ***
We are looking for some willing volunteers to help us with a few things on Monday, Nov. 13th. We need people to help man the front doors during the American Education visits and also help taking photos in the cafeteria during lunches. Sign up for a shift on the Sign-Up Genius page we have set up for this. We realize it’s late notice, but all helpers will be very much appreciated. See the sign up here. Thank you for your help.

American Education Week – Here’s what’s happening tomorrow
Parent Visitation for American Education Week will take place Monday, November 13th from 10am – 2pm. Parents are welcome anytime during this timeframe to visit in our classrooms. If you have multiple children, you are free to move around the school for multiple visitations. Normal classroom schedules will be followed so parents are able to see a day in the life of their children. You may want to consider a short classroom visit and then a visit to the cafeteria. The lunchroom will be open as well and this year we will have a volunteer coming around with a photo frame snapping pictures of parents with their child. The Book Fair will be open during recess shifts as well. We hope to see you on Monday!

Wild West Book Fair is open all this week
Thanks to so many families who braved a cold night Friday to join us for the Grand Opening of the Fall Book Fair. The Fair will be open all this week and there are so many great books there! Students will visit during their Media Center time, so parents can send money along with students for shopping. Or stop in for one of the Pastries for Parents events listed on the calendar above, during your visit on Monday, or on Tuesday evening when the Fair stays open until 6 pm.

It’s Waste Not Wednesday!
This Wednesday is “America Recycles Day” and at DES we’d like to encourage all students to bring a “waste free” lunch. What does that mean?  It means packing lunches in containers that can be reused instead of disposable items that end up in the landfill. Last year, 3rd graders learned to make lunch pouches from fabric, but you can find lots of reusable lunch packaging at local stores like Whole Foods, or online at www.reusit.com . So, bring a waste-free lunch on Wednesday, and every day if you can!

DES is in need of substitutes
Recently, the office has experienced a shortage which requires the staff to find coverage from within. This most often takes our teaching assistants away from their normal duties with students to cover classrooms without a substitute. If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, please visit the AACPS website at www.aacps.org. Once you have applied, please e-mail Mrs. Harris at chharris@aacps.org to let her know so she can help expedite processing. Thank you to anyone who can help support our school while making some money on the side!

Green School Club meeting
The Green School Club will hold their monthly meeting Monday, Nov. 13th before school at 8:15 a.m. All members are encouraged to attend. Any questions, contact Chairperson Sheila Norman at: sheilamnorman@yahoo.com.
