Dining for Davidsonville

Sunday, December 27th   /   10:30 a.m. to 9:00 pm

Harvest Thyme in our own lovely Davidsonville is hosting an entire day of fundraising for the DES PTO.
You can order by phone, or dine in (get reservations) – either way, a percentage of proceeds will benefit the school.

It’s local, it’s delicious, and we are so grateful.

We are ready for you winter!

Can snow and ice still affect a school day?

While we are learning in our homes and may seem warm and snug, winter weather conditions may still interfere with some school operations. So if you are ever in doubt due to weather, be sure to visit and check out the top of the front page for advisory on school for that day.

AACPS will also post on social media and as they seem to love Twitter, it’s good practice to check there and keep an eye on Facebook where parents will be posting all about it.

PTO General Member Meeting

Join us this Tuesday at 7:30 pm for
a virtual PTO General Membership Meeting.

We’ll be talking a bit about our plans for the year, clubs, programs, and activities. We ask for current PTO members to vote on the annual budget, so make sure you have joined for this school year. Please note that this is not a forum for discussion on AACPS school plans and policy. We will be talking about everything else that we want to do. So, join in and let us know if you have anything you’d like to see at the school this year, or any creative ideas for this unique moment in time. We look forward to seeing you!

See the Sunday Gator Blast for the Zoom meeting link.

And we continue…

Lots of chatter about upcoming decisions and discussions at the AACPS level of things. The Board of Education has an upcoming meeting next Wednesday, Oct. 7th at 6:00 pm. You can always tune in live to these meetings or watch the recording later.

They have also announced some planning talks for next Monday & Tuesday to discuss clubs, athletics, and various policies surrounding all of these things. The DES PTO is tuning in as some of these decisions impact what we are planning for the year.

Hopefully, we’ll have some news soon on how things are progressing as we move forward. If you have opinions, you can reach out to the AA County Board of Education at any time. Visit the Board page at this link.

Meanwhile, keep reading the Gator Blast. We have upcoming spirit wear sales, Unity Day is coming back around, and we’ll let you know everything as soon as we do. Go Gators!

Welcome to the world of Virtual DES 2020!

Back to School artHello Gators!
We are so excited to go
back to school with all of you.

While we may not all be back in the same building yet, we will all be working together to make the best year possible. Let’s learn & laugh. Let’s imagine, believe & achieve. We’ve got lots to do.

Your DES PTO is busy making plans, brainstorming, solving problems, and listening to ideas. Please jump right in and join with us as we move into a very special 2020/2021 school year. We are looking into virtual programs, fun outdoor options, and anything we can do to liven things up and get everyone going!

Sign up for the Gator Blast weekly e-mails right off the bat. If you got the e-mails in previous years, you’re already set. This is the best way to keep up with everything that comes up. We include info. from and about the school, about the PTO, about school board decisions, community programs focused on kids and families, and any general news that we think is worth sharing.

Next, we ask if you would officially join the PTO by filling out the membership form and paying the very reasonable annual dues. We will include your family in our yearly Student Directory and we will use the funding to support the many, many projects, purchases, and programs that the PTO helps to bring to life at DES.

As we get going, we want to be available to answer any of your questions that you just can’t find answers to. Please reach out to the PTO and we will try to help with whatever you might need. We’ll let you know when regular meetings get started and you’ll be hearing from us via the Gator Blast each week. We do try and keep this site updated, but we hope you understand that all of this work is done by volunteers who have kids too. So, be patient as we go and if you are willing to volunteer in any way, we can probably put you to work somehow. News on volunteer opportunities would normally be everywhere, but this year is a bit different than most. Keep an ear out and we’ll let you know when we need some help. Davidsonville Elementary is known for its amazing volunteer participation and we plan to keep that energy going this year. Thanks ahead of time.

We strive to build bridges between the school and families, and we look forward to working with all of you as we make these elementary school years the absolute best they can be for our children!

Time Out

Just a notice that this website will not be maintained as long as the school is on delay. All activities and planned events of the DES PTO have been suspended for the remainder of the school year. Apologies for all the unrest, but obviously, there’s nothing we can do.

We’ll spread word of anything we need to share, but the site and the Gator Blast will be fairly inactive until we gear up for the 2020-2021 school year.

Enjoy your spring and summer everyone. Best of luck to all as we navigate the COVID shutdown.

Gator Gamble dinner canceled

We are so sad to announce…

In the wake of uncertainty about the Corona Virus that is causing world troubles, AACPS has announced that all school events and any set to happen in school facilities will be canceled. At this time, we are uncertain of any future plans, so the DES PTO has elected to simply announce the cancellation and get back to you when we know more.

For all those who purchased dinner tickets, we are asking for your patience until we can figure out all of our options moving forward. Secondly, in case the event must be completely cancelled, we hope you might consider your purchase a donation to the PTO. Again, this is just an idea at this point and we will let you know of any future decisions.

As for the online auction that took place, items that were purchased have been sent home with students when that is an option. Larger items or special goods will be delivered by an event volunteer. You can contact the PTO by e-mail if you have questions at

Thank you SO much to all of you who have supported the PTO with auction purchases and by buying tickets for the dinner event. And good luck to all of us as we deal with this unprecedented situation.

Thanks for Family Fitness Fun

Just a huge shoutout to everyone who helped with making our first Family Fitness Fun Night happen!

Many local businesses stepped up and hosted tables and offered information, practice sessions, samples, and discounts. We owe a big debt of gratitude to them.

Thanks also to our parent helpers who helped to bring it all together. Great snacks, and fun for all. Finally, thanks to our students and families who came to check it all out!
