Chess Program
DES PTO is so proud of the DES Chess Teams… See their trophy cabinet in the school hallway if you have any doubt! Our mission is to enrich the students with quality instruction, hands-on playing, strategic-thinking, tournament-style methods and sportsmanship. Kids of all ages (grades 1-5) and abilities are welcome to join.
We have contracted with an outside business (SilverKnights) to provide education and oversight for the DES Chess Program. The group meets in the cafeteria before school and on select days for competitive events. Classes are for beginners, intermediates and advance players. Students will be placed based on enrollment and then the coaches will evaluate students for proper placement. There is a fee for the instruction and class materials. There are scholarship funds available for families that cannot afford the fee, but want to have their children learn chess. Please contact Mrs. Isett about the scholarship.
