Thank-you notes and pictures welcome
Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here!
We will be celebrating our amazing DES teachers and staff the week of May 3-7 – that’s next week! This year’s theme is celebrating that our DES teachers and staff “Lift Us UP!” Now it’s our turn to lift them UP with our appreciation! In next week’s Blast, we will provide more details about how to participate throughout the week, but there are two ways you can help this week!
First:
Please have your student complete the attached coloring page and thank you note for a teacher (or feel free to complete more than one!) and return to the school by May 3. Beginning on April 26, there will be a box outside of the school where students can drop off their pictures at any time or you can e-mail them to desgatorstaw@gmail.com.
Second:
Throughout Teacher Appreciation Week, we plan to share photos and videos of students thanking our wonderful teachers and staff! Please have your child make a thank-you sign and take a photo or record a short thank-you video and e-mail to desgatorstaw@gmail.com. By sharing your student’s photo or video, you are giving the PTO permission to publish them on the PTO’s social media. Thank you for helping us to lift UP our teachers and staff with appreciation for all they do for our school community!

A 1,000 Thanks to this weekend’s helpful crew
A huge shout-out of appreciation to Ali Messinger and her stencil installation crew – Leslie & John Conwell, Mike Schneider, Mindy McConville, 4th grade DES teacher Ms. Cedar and a few other community friends, with some DES student help too! The PTO bought several large playground stencils and we needed help getting them installed.
This team answered our call to help and got these stencils installed on our playground for the kids to start enjoying! They did a fabulous job and we are so thankful for their help and support! Recess at DES will be even better thanks to their hard work.

Help wanted at DES for recess project
Can you help install some new playground goodies?!?! The DES PTO recently bought some stencils to help with stations during recess time and we need some help making them come to life. We need someone to lay the stencils, then apply the paint to the pavement and/or sidewalks. Please let us know if you (and a few friends maybe?) can help. We know the kids will love this addition to their recess time, but we need some help to make it happen. E-mail Carrie at cagroff@comcast.net if you can help with this.
A note of gratitude…
The PTO recently learned that your Smile.Amazon.com support has been strong! Thanks to all who remember to click the link (found at the bottom of every Gator Blast) every time you shop OR remember to always head straight to smile.amazon.com and select Davidsonville Elementary School PTO as your charity of choice. From October to December of 2020, your shopping raised over $200! You can also now download the Smile.Amazon app for both iPhone and Android phones. And thank you.
